History

We Interrupt This Message was founded in 1996 and quickly grew into a national media strategy and training center. From its inception, Interrupt has conducted numerous high-profile media campaigns, training initiatives, media studies and publication projects (detailed in the links below).

In 2002, the organization was reorganized as an activist project bridging a network of professional media trainers and consultants dedicated to the media principals underlying the work of Interrupt.

In 2004, with the sponsorship of the CS Mott Foundation, Interrupt published Talking the Walk: A Communications Guide for Racial Justice , an attempt to collect and synthesize best practices, recent research, and case studies into capacity building tools for racial justice advocates.
